About Chopta Tungnath Trek
Tungnath: Where you feel most alive.Tungnath – parched at the height of 12,073 ft, is one of the highest Shiva Temple in the world. This beautiful trek is considered one of the easiest and popular treks in the upper Himalayan range. Every year, thousands of trekkers and nature lovers visit this trek to have a breathtaking and mesmerizing view of the upper Himalayan peaks. The trek consists of picturesque waterfalls, snow-capped mountain peaks, green forest trails, and a lot of vegetation. the basecamp of this trek is mostly near Chopta (8,790 ft), a small region of meadows and evergreen forest area. Along with this trek, you will get a chance to explore forest trails, massive maple, oak & pine trees conifers, and some small water streams.Deoriatal is the second most famous track to be performed along with it. It has a myriad collection of pictorial sights during all the seasons of the year. The specialty of this trek is that it is easy to do in springs, summer, autumn as well as in winters. However, the Tungnath temple is open from May to October-November (up to the Dipawali festival). Tungnath is one of the Panch Kedar temples and is believed to be more than 1000 years old. You will capture a silvery sheen of almost all the eastern and western Himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand from here. Best time to Travel
The best time to explore this beautiful trek is in May. This is the time when the temple is open and the deity of Lord Tungnath is taken to the temple. You can also trek in winters from January to March if you are a snow lover, and want to make your trek more exciting.
Detail Itinerary:-
Day-1: Dehradun to Chopta Dugalbittha via RishikeshDistance and Time: 200 Km Drive / 6-7 HrsStart your journey from Rishikesh early morning. The Alaknanda river will keep you company throughout the way. You will reach Dugalbitta (8,530 ft) after a 7-8 hrs drive, by the evening 6:00 PM. Dugalbitta is an organic Himalaya village and is a treasure of Nature in itself. It is a part of Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. This small hamlet parched just before Chopta and recently turned into a perfect gateway for travelers. Overnight stay here.
Day-2: Chopta Dugalbitta to Tungnath and return backDistance and Time: 11-12 Km trek / 5-6 HrsWake up early to commence the hike today, and reach as soon as possible the top to witness the sunrise. The height will be a steep ascent with sharp curves on the trail. After the 10th bend, you will see the beautiful opening of Chandrashila Top ahead. The 11th bend will mark the entryway to the Tungnath Temple (12,073 ft). You will get mesmerized by the splendid view of Chandrashila peak above the temple. Fill up your soul with the panoramic view of the great Garhwal and Kumaun mountain ranges from the top. Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghughuti, Dronagiri, Chaukhambha, etc. are some of the peaks you will get a glimpse of. Start descending the slope early in the evening to get back to the campsite.
Day-3: Trek to Deoriatal via Sari village, Return to CampsiteDistance and Time: 15 Km Drive and 3 Km trek, Later 220 Km Drive / 12 to 14 HrsLeave the campsite of Chopta Dugalbitta early morningafter breakfast and drive for 20 minutes to reach Sari Village. Start the mixed trek with ascent and descent to Deoriatal (8,179 ft). the glittering and shimmering waters of the lake will soothe your mind. A grand vista of Chaukhambha peak is unveiled in the background of the lake. Here you will see many lakeside camps as well during the season. Spend some time with the photographic views around the lake and trek back to Sari in the afternoon. And return to Camp site.Cherishing the beautiful memories of this trek in your mind, drive back to Rishikesh after having lunch at Sari.
Day-4:Chopta Dugalbittha campsite to Dehradun via RishikeshDistance and Time: 200 Km Drive / 6-7 Hrs
